Let Him
Our sweet baby has croup. He is sick and needs help to be well. Yet, he won't let me help him. He's refusing to drink fluids. He's refusing to take medicine. He's refusing to say "yes" to me.
Baby, just let me help you! His resistance makes him his own enemy. He is thwarting his healing. He is prolonging his pain. He is unknowingly holding on to the very thing he wants to be free of.
And I see my own heart is exactly the same.
I'm on a sanctification journey and I need Yahweh's help to be well. To be whole. And I crave the Life and Healing and Joy that He has for me. Yet, I often won't let Him help me.
It comes down to this: Choice. Simply, my choice. I can choose to listen to His Word, to walk in His ways, to allow His Holy Spirit to mend me. Or I can choose to not allow His work in my life.
Every day I resist Him. Sometimes deliberately. Sometimes from being on autopilot. Often because I just want to do things my own way. Because I'm busy and already have so much on my plate. Because it's easier to just do what I know to do in my own strength.
But following Jesus requires deliberate living. Conscious decisions. An engaged heart. Mindful choices to let Him be God. Without Him, I am thwarting my healing. If I don't hold on to Him, I hold on to the very things I want to be free of.Father, I want to say "yes" to You and all Your plans for me. Help me to have the courage and strength and trust to let You help me. Help me to choose You.
As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way of life shaped by God's life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness. God said, "I am holy; you be holy." You call out to God for help and he helps - he's a good Father that way. But don't forget, he's also a responsible Father, and won't let you get by with sloppy living. (1 Peter 1:15-17 MSG)
