Beautiful Expectations

"And don't forgot a note!" She sang at me while I packed her lunchbox this morning. "A note for my lunchbox!"

I had tucked a note into her lunchbox on her first day of school.  Then I wrote a note for her second day too. And third. And fourth. And fifth. And sixth. And now the seventh.  Every day of her school career so far has included a note from her mum.  She knows no school day without a note.  For her, it's the norm.  She expects notes from me.

As I folded today's note into her pink princess sandwich box and thought about her beautiful expectation, I saw a challenge to my Faith.

My daughter wants a note every day.  And I want to write her one.  Simple.

What if my Faith was like this?  Expecting to hear the Holy Spirit everyday.  Looking for His love notes.  Expecting them every day without fail.  Asking Him to speak being sure that I'd hear.  Even having the boldness to remind Him that I'm expecting daily proverbial lunchbox notes.  Simple.

For his Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that we are God's children. (Romans 8:16 NLT)
